New Balance 2002R gets a new Black/Silver treatment

До каталогу

What can one say about the New Balance 2002R ? It first became a true hit silhouette at the beginning of the decade, and subsequently transitioned to a more accessible, mass-market status. Despite this, the 2002R remains an important part of the lineup today – especially given New Balance's active promotion of related models like the 1906R . The latter, incidentally, has become further proof of how retro technical runners can transform into full-fledged lifestyle icons.

Just as the 2002R received a resurgence through silhouette reimaginings and releases like the Protection Pack, the 1906 line experienced its own boom thanks to the rise of technical aesthetics. With their aggressive shapes, metallic accents, and sporty DNA, the 1906R and 1906U became a natural extension of the 2002R's legacy. As a result, these silhouettes are often viewed as “big brothers” or evolutions of the same design language.

While the black and gray combination itself doesn't seem revolutionary, it's the way it's presented that makes the new 2002R interesting. The upper is crafted in deep “night” suede, creating a rich top layer, while the light gray mesh underneath creates a subtle contrast. A special touch is added by the shiny silver logo and chrome overlays, which add a glossy finish to the pair. NB has already used a similar presentation on some versions of the 1906R, but here it looks more understated and versatile.

This approach strikes a balance between classic versatility and modern technical aesthetics. The model pairs easily with most looks without seeming too overpowering. In this sense, the 2002R continues the same logic as the 1906R: high comfort, a recognizable retro silhouette, and detailing that draws attention even in the most minimalist colorways.
